Exchange of Vows Notary asks the man, "(his name), do you take this woman to be your wife, to live together in (holy) matrimony, to love her, to honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?" Man answers, "I do."

The priest will then say aloud "You have declared your consent before the Church. May the Lord in his goodness strengthen your consent and fill you both with his blessings. What God has joined, men must not divide. Amen."

Why do they rarely talk about or sign prenups, in the case of what will happen if they ruin each other's peace after getting married, when making those promises? They promise to "love, honor and obey" each other...which basically means to be nice to each other.

It is in answer to a question, where the officiant asks “do you take so-and-so to be your lawfully wedded wife/husband?” The answer to that question is “I DO”. In more modern wedding services, the question is rephrased to “WILL you take…” and is answered with the phrase “I will.”
